Indoor Plant Care in Dubai's Summer: A Guide to Greener Living

Dubai summers bring intense heat and dry air, but your indoor plants can still flourish with the right care. Whether you’re growing greenery in an apartment, villa or office, learning to maintain indoor plants in hot weather can turn any indoor space into a fresh, vibrant oasis.

1. Choose Indoor Plants That Thrive in Warm Climates

Not all houseplants can handle Dubai’s summer heat, even indoors. Go for heat-tolerant, low-maintenance indoor plants like ZZ plant, snake plant, peace lily, rubber plant, and pothos. These plants are well-suited to indoor environments with air conditioning and filtered light.

2. Light Placement: Bright but Indirect is Best

During Dubai summers, the sunlight can be too intense—even through windows. Place your indoor plants in areas with bright, indirect light, away from harsh midday sun. Plants like monstera, areca palm, and dracaena love soft light and are perfect for living rooms or offices.

3. Watering Tips for Hot Weather

Indoor plants may dry out faster in summer, but overwatering is still a common mistake. Water only when the top inch of soil is dry. Use pots with drainage holes and mist occasionally to increase humidity. Boston fern, calathea, and aloe vera love the occasional mist in dry air.

4. Temperature & AC Sensitivity: Balance is Key

Dubai’s AC-cooled rooms can sometimes create a dry, drafty environment. Keep plants away from direct air conditioning vents and maintain a stable temperature between 20–26°C. Plants like philodendron, spider plant, and rubber tree are more adaptable to indoor cooling.

5. Soil, Fertilizer & Seasonal Maintenance

Use well-draining potting mix and feed your plants with a gentle liquid fertilizer once a month during summer. Trim yellowing leaves and clean dust off foliage to keep them breathing freely. A light summer refresh keeps your indoor jungle healthy and growing strong.
